i have a recurring leak into the trunk, resulting in a moldy/musty smell that permeates not only the trunk, but into the passenger compartment. After a hard rain, I might have as much as a standing inch of water in the spare tire well. The seal around the trunk cavity is not brittle, and seems to be in good shape. Any suggestions?

1997 Cadillac Seville STS Question: trunk leak

Sounds crazy, but get in the trunk with a flashlight and have someone pour water over the trunk with a garden hose and try to find the leak. You may need to remove some of the interior to see where the water is entering. Check really good around the taillights and trunk seals.

I have the same problem with my cad sts 1997. Did you eve figured out what it is, since we cannot figure it out. I lined my trunk with newspapers and ran water outside, After I opened the trunk the newspapers where dry and there was lots of water in the tire well. I am at my wits end trying to figure this out. Do you know if Cadillac company is doing anything about this? I saw lots of people having the same problems. It looks likesome kind of defect by the manufacture of the body or I cannot figure this out.
