1994 Nissan Pickup (D21) Question: Truck wont start with key

When truck wouldnt start with key ran wire across the starter it turned over so i wired in a push button for the starter only thing is now when i start it with the push button start nothing on the dash works and the heater will not come on just today i turned on the key and it started with the key and i put it into reverse and everything went out again...also it seems to be stuck in 2ond or 3rd gear so i have to manually shift it its a automatic trans

    You will need to start with checking the electrical wiring and fuses for problems, start and see that the ignition switch is receiving power, transferring that power to the accessory position and then has power when the ignition key is in run position, the battery live position, accessory position and run position should all have power. On cranking the wire going to the starter must have power. I have seen the electrical portion of the ignition switch fail and the fuse links at the battery fail. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info or there is a company that independent auto repair shops "buy" their information from that offer a very reasonable service to do it yourselvers. You can get a one week subscription or year subscription very cheap. The information is year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... great quality information same as the professionals have ,much better than generic workshop manuals from parts stores, much cheaper than the factory manual try http://bit.ly/mitchell_repair_manuals_online
