1997 Isuzu Rodeo Question: trouble starting

 Rookie

Sometimes my car starts on the first try, other times it takes up 3=4 tries, what could problem be? My mechanic says maybe computer?

    It could be the engine computer, but it seems to me the more likely place to start is the ignition coil pack. Has that been checked?

    The fuel pressure regular failed on these (fuel bleeds off into the vacuum hose making it difficult to start. The intake gasket fails, have the manifold checked for leaks using propane (or better still a smoke generating machine). Ignition could be failing if so a scan tool plugged into the 16 pin diagnostic socket under the dash board could show information vital to finding the route cause of your hard starting.
