Well, I have a 95 Caravan with 3.3L V6. I have been having the exact problem you are with my van. I got 94,000 miles on it too. Van is nice but after it has been ran for 10 mins or so, the van will act up. It will only stay in lower gear or 1st, but if you speed up it will go. But, if you go any faster then 30-35 MPH, the vans RPMS will go sky high. After doing weeks of research and asking tons of people, I have got several different things told to me to be the problem and read too much to get my brain hurting. LOL well, anyways, the Haynes manuals for our van is amazing. I got it at AutoZone for $20 and it go into detail about everything. I don't know if yours being a 92 is manufactured with a electrical emissions control system. Mine is and for instance, if you turn the key over so the battery cuts on, then without starting it, turn the key back to as if you where taking out the keys, repeat that 3 times in a row, on the 3rd turn over, keep the key over so the car is on but don't start it. after doing that, pay close attention to the service engine light, you need to count the light every time it comes on and goes off. well, this built in system is designed so the van owner can service emission problems without a mechanics help. I couldn't believe it but it seems to be a brillant thing. It read a code to me which is listed in my Haynes Manual, that the transmission sensor was bad. Sure enough, I popped the hood, looked around and seen the sensor was easy to reach. I got on the ground, looked at the sensor close and notice trans fluid all around and seping out of where the sensor hole is on the trans. I wanted to pull it off to just look at how it looked and the damn thing was barrely hanging on. One turn to the left and it came off and trans fluid all over my head. So, i cleaned it up good and tighted the same sensor back on. I drove 40 Miles straight tonight and no signs of my problem. Try that. Also, the coolant temp. sensor was another maybe i heard. Last but not least, the vacuum hoses and gaskets could cause a bad signal to the emissions which make the van mess up like ours too. I don't knw, havnt went that far yet. Let me know what you think or know please. oh yah, the fan clutch was another too. hope not cuz the cost more then the vans worth.
