Question: transmission won't come out of 1 gear can i check anything else

tranny won't come out of 1 gear can it be anything else i'm missing or do i need to replace the whole transmission

    If it is a manual transmission try moving the shifter manually at the transmission casing itself, if an automatic transmission maybe have a transmission shop look at it and see if they can figure anything out short of pulling out the transmission.
