transmission wines through first, second, third, and fifth gear, and when clutch is not pressed; transmission noise is present, and the only gear it does' not wine in is fourth! also, we put a $250 rebuil;t kit in engine; this did not seem to help. the only thing the rebuilt did was make the shifts tighter! any, help on this matter would greatly be appreaciated! ty!

The reason it doesn't whine in 4th is that that's a sort of 'direct drive" situation in the transmission and it doesn't load the countershaft bearings, which are the noisy ones. This is typical of worn out transmission bearings. You probably should replace the transmission fluid and may get some more life out of the trans, and may reduce the noise. Otherwise, you need a transmission rebuild to repair it. Get it estimated at a transmission shop or a Ford specialist.
