Problem first started with hard downshift from 2nd to 1st. Now it jerks hard when accelerating,usually at 20 mph. Its like the car hesitates and then jerks as I am stepping on the gas. It is more prevelant in stop and go traffic.
Rough shifting (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd). Revs up and doesn't want to engage and then does with a "clunk" and wheel squeal. Software upgraded, but problem continues. One mechanic says he has replaced his transmission 3 times. Sounds like Volvo needs a recall.
I have encountered a problem with my 2002 Volvo S60. The transmission seems to be slipping in the gears at lower speeds and then lurches or jerks when it catches. Don't know the solution yet. Need to take it into the shop later today.
My S60 T5 started jerking when decreasing speed or coasting to slow for a turn or light, around 1200-1000 RPMs. Its an automatic car, but felt like I was downshifting too soon/fast. Then the jerking turned to a harsher bucking, and now, when starting out from a standstill, it bucks enough to make me think someone rear-ended me. Taking it to the dealer next week to report the issue and have it fixed.
Transmission slips out of 1st and 2nd and engine revs up. Loud clunk if you don't get your foot of the accelerator. Intermittent. Maybe worse when engine is hot after 10 minutes or so.
Runs fine until warmed up--then shifting is erratic--gears slip going around corner and then trying to accelerate. Car bucks after leaving a stop light or sign. Always feels like gears are late. Never thought I would regret buying a Volvo. Recall is needed.
shift jerk from 2-3 gear when accelerating, shift jerk when deaccelerating from 2-1 gear, automatic transmission. slipping shifts when a/c is running, slips shift and shift jerk constantly when slip control is on.
Delayed harsh engagement between drive and reverse, slipping between gears and other erratic behaviour. Suggested fixes range from rebuilt Volvo transmission 4,500 to rebuild with new valve body and transfer case not much cheaper. Still haven't fixed it, since I paid about that for the damn thing. Best looking lemon, I've ever owned!
I am experiencing intermittent jerking at low speed driving in the city. It just happen to cut off my entire car at a stop light with traffic behind me. It feels like my transmission is failing most times. I recently had the throttle cleaned by Volvo and it didn't help the problem. What I notice is that this problem occurs frequently in the summer. Volvo needs to recall and update software or something.
REVS UP BETWEEN GEARS. SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING
Hard shift between First and Second until engine warms up, but even then has noticeable slippage... Software update didn't help at all...
This is the 2nd transmission in the car, and has only 20,000mi since replacement.
Symptoms are very hard 2nd gear to first gear shifts as the car slows through about 3mph, especially when hot, or in stop-and-go driving.
Some 2/3 and 3/4 flared shifts.
Learned the Valve bodies are known for sticking components, including solenoids.
The solution is possibly a new valve body ($2000 or so) or a new transmission (rebuilt units installed by Volvo $4000-6000).
Had transmission software checked, adaptations deleted, fluid flushed and refilled by dealer, and it worked for a couple of days, then back to sticking and hard downshifts.
Hard shifts when in extended stop and go. I use manual shift option to temper the tranny. volvo needs to recall.
Shifting to drive slams. From neutral to drive results in a slamming action.

Needed new software in first year, now shifting rough until car warms up...
I've had this problem since the first three years I've owned the car. Dealership claims they can't pinpoint the issue and sometimes can't repeat the problem for them to experience it. Upgraded software didn't fix the problem.
Clucky transmission volvo dealer wants 1600 to flush and they dont know if this will stop the problem, may need new transmission. I drive less then 5,000 a year and have only owned this for 9 months. UNhappy
At low speed, transmission slips anf then suddenly kick in with a loud bang. Took it to Volvo who said that it needs to be replaced for 4000$ ... Since the car is not worth that much I am now forced to drive it this way...
LAST VOLVO EVER FOR ME...
Sad because except for that the car was amazing...
