Question: Transmission range sennsor circuit replacement

Engine service light on and transmission arrow light flashing. This has occured a few times. I think the diagnostic code was ph705 trans.range sensor circuit malfunction.

    It's very common for the gear position sensor to fail on these 960's. You'll need to have a new one installed to address this.

    My car was doing this some time ago and my mechanic said I need to change the gear shifter. But what he told me to do is to rapidly shift my gear shifter about 20 times and this seems to work, I have not had the work done yet since I'm flat broke, but shifting rapidly seems to work. I believe you have to have the key in the car and I'm thinking your foot on the break for you to be able to do this.
