I asked a different question before regarding transmissions and got a great answer. I'm hoping this will prove beneficial too.

The suburban cannot drive in drive. It cannot drive in D2. It will reverse with no problem when placed in that gear. It will drive in D1 with no problem. But the actual "drive" and "D2" gears are unusuable. The car attempts to go into those gears by the noise I hear (which is a hum) and then idles not going anywhere or catching the gear.

So, we have a transmission issue. Does anyone know what to call this problem and what it takes to fix it? Does this car just need a new transmission? It's old but sturdy.

Thank you for your time.
