Transmission Pump

Auto Systems and Repair

The transmission pump is a hydraulic pump that circulates transmission fluid trough the transmission and its cooling system. It also builds the hydraulic pressure necessary for the transmission to operate.

Symptoms of Wear or Failure

  • Abnormal whine type noise
  • Transmission fluid leak

Related Repair Advice

  • A clogged transmission pan filter can restrict fluid flow to the pump, possibly damaging it
  • If the front pump seal is being replaced, the sealing surface on the torque convertor should be inspected for damage. A damaged sealing surface could damage the newly installed pump seal.
