Occasionally (so far) the engine dies, when the car is put into reverse. I can immediately restart the engine. It seems to happen after the car has been running for a while, for example when I'm trying to straighten out the car in a parking space. The transmission was replaced about three years ago.

1997 Pontiac Bonneville Question: transmission problem?

This sounds like a low idle speed problem. Have you had it fixed and was that the problem?

Since I asked the question, we haven't had the problem again (knock on wood). But we are taking the car in for a couple of other minor problems this week. I will ask the service rep about the idle speed. Thanks.

Ask the technician to have a look at the throttle body, it may need to be cleaned. Good Luck!
