Problem Description and Possible Solution
The transmission pressure control solenoid may fail causing erratic shifting. Our technicians tell us that partial dis-assembly of the transmission is necessary to replace a failed pressure control solenoid.

Car will shift really hard 1st to 2nd will take longer than normal to shift and when it does it clunks, 2 to 3rd doesn't have as bad of delay but also clunks. Most of the time I can let it sit for a hour sometimes less sometimes more and then it shifts like new. Today it's really bad shifting first to second it struggles and car jerks bad. 2 times I've pulled a quart of tranny fluid out thru the full hole and put in a quart of tranny stop slip I think lucas was the 1st one I used then transx or something when I do this it seems to go away for about a month then come back. Fluid is at correct level, has a healthy red color, and no noticeable metal. Seriously 800bux to replace pressure solenoid or whatever ? Any other suggestions of repair options? I won't spend that kind of money on my $2500 Buick just need to make it last a couple more months until I can get a new car with tax money. Any advice please I have to get to work get my wife to work and get my 5 year old to school for a few more months with this puppy.
when its a cold ride it shift good but after it warms up it start jerking while shifting do the pcs canses that
My car started to have hard up-shifts after driving a few minutes. It would bang from 1st to 2nd gear, 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th. Sometimes, if I were to shut off the engine for a few minutes, the problem goes away for a bit.
I was told that I had to replace the Electronic Pressure Sensor for about $800 (after labor)
My car jerks occasionally when the transmission shifts. It feels like something breaks when it happens, but then the car runs normal. It does it in town or on the highway. Very annoying.
WAS SHIFTING HARD SOMETIMES. NOW IT WON'T GO AFTER YOU START DOWN THE ROAD IT LIKE IT GOES OUT OF DRIVE AND THE TECH RUNS UP. LIKE IT IS IN NO GEAR.
Hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, then 3rd to 4th gear. The shifting is hard, and noisy. The car literally jerks when its shifting from 1st to 4th gear. Down shifting from 4th to 1st when slowing down or stopping is as expected, smooth and natural.
Start car put in R trany slips then bangs into R. Stop car go shopping, start car put in drive trany bangs , feels like I was rearended. on the down shift trany bangs. No trany noise other than the bang.Highway driving 60 70 mph no problems. If trans is shifted od, to 3,2,1 then stop and pull out no banging.
Bought vehicle used. Almost right away developed hard upshifts usually 3rd to 4th gear. Changed tranny oil, filter, used additive. Seemed to help, but problem worsened. Most problem in warmer weather (not as often in winter), now get hard up shifts all gears when warmed up, tho occasionally will shift normally. At highway speeds, after getting hard upshifts, also get a whine from transmission - apparently running in high pressure mode.
Vehicle now has 240,000 + miles on it.
periodic rough, hard shifting; sometimes when cold, other times when warmed-up. Changed & flushed trans oil & filter, still periodic rough, hard shifting.
TRANSMISSION SLAM SHIFTS UP AND DOWN WHEN COOLENT TEMPERATURE GOES ABOVE 200 DEGREES. SHIFTING NORMAN AT COOLER TEMPERATURES.
Noticed that transmission was not shifting into overdrive periodically. I thought that it was because I was going too slow. Now it is starting to jerk when it changes from 3rd gear to OD. Sometimes it goes thru the gears as it should. When quickly accelerating from a starting position, the transmission seems to work as it should.
Hard upshifting after driving over a minimum of 20 min occasionally. No check engine light. Mechanic states pressure control solenoid and valve assembly replacement/repair.
As others have stated, my car shifts fine when cold and takes longer to begin shifting hard during cold weather. Once the car is warm and/or it's hot outside the car will shift hard and of course jerk the vehicle.
I have checked into getting this repaired and it will cost over $500 because of the partial dis-assembly need to access the part. The repair shops also say that replacement of the part may cause the transmission to fail. I'm just wondering if this is true or the repair shop trying to force me to choose a more expensive repair....
All of a sudden it jerks when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear.doesn't have at problems with other gears just 3rd to 4th gear.
starts car put into drive it drives for maybe 3 minutes then when i accelarate it just revs turn car off let it sit for a min then it runs again for a min are 2 then stalls again
getting code P0742, Torque Converter Solenoid. told that this code sometimes thrown as result of different problem. having low speed/low gear shifting issues as car bucks and hesitates upon acceleration up to about 1250 rpms. above that it shifts fine.
This buick was my mothers car. The shutter in the transmission has been a problem for years
A whirling noise then transmission shifts hard. This happens after the temp. guage is warm
I have this same problem, I think. Have driven less 1,000 miles since problem started. I changed trany oil, hoping it will help.
after get warmed up it shift hard up next gear it has mess with the emisson test put it in not ready mode
