Question: transmission? or electrical?

 Rookie

i have a 98 s10 truck 4x4 with a 4.3 in it and at randon the truck wont shift into 3rd or 4th but i can manually shift into 2nd and the speedometer quit reading, and the check engine light came on.... what do i do?

  Transmission problem definitely there's a few solenoids that controls these transmissions now days and they will trigger the engine light to jump on
