When engine is cold, shifting from first into second, I got a loud thud or clunk. I brought it to two different mechanics, corrected by one and subsequently had the same problem approx 7000 miles later and they both said the AT fluid seal was defective and was changed. I was also leaking AT fluid.

Leaking in the half shaft. The dealer replaced it under warranty. After approx 6,000 miles it started leaking again. The dealer replaced under Ford TSB 11-30-11.
