the car will run but only in 3rd gear i do believe. the tcu isn't throwing any codes and where do i find parts for this car it's not easy

MasterCheck that the transmission fluid level is correct. Parts can be got on line from sources like www.rockauto.com but you are right the dealer has discontinued a lot of parts for the 3000GT, great car!
