transmission fluid issues on 1996 Chevrolet Beretta

My car will go in Drive,but not reverse or Neutral. I was told to check transmission fluid. Where is the cap located? or any other suggestions?

There should be a dipstick on the passenger side of the engine compartment. You check the fluid and if necessary add through the dipstick tube. When you say it does not go into neutral, do you mean it still moves when in neutral? If so, it sounds more like a shift linkage issue, possibly a broken cable or shift lever.
