Problem Description and Possible Solution
Vehicles with a 6speed automatic transmission may develop one or more of the following faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate inside the transmission: Illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723, loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift. Removal and dis-assembly of the transmission will be required to replace the broken 35R wave plate. It is also extremely important that all debris from the failed part be cleaned from the transmission while it is disassembled in order to try and prevent future problems.

So I was driving home from work today and what do you know, I loose all transmission function. The engine light comes on and the vehicle periodically jumps in and out of gear. I gingerly inch my way home and by the grace of a higher power, manage to pull it in my garage...at which point absolutely no more transmission. I ran a scan on the codes and sure enough P0776, P0700 and P0777. Most irritating part is, this vehicle was purchased for the safety of my wife and young daughter who were left stranded only four-five weeks ago on the Ohio Turnpike due to the charging system malfunctioning. Again....only 58,000 miles! Does anyone know if GM will honor this transmission under warranty if its over the 5yr mark? Seems to me, it should really be a recall at this point!
At 64,176 miles on the vehicle, From a stop at a light just exiting the highway, a loud snap as we tried to accellerate. By using the manual shifting buttons, I determined that 3rd gear was gone. We were able to limp to the house as we were only about a mile away. I googled the problem and, of course, found many complaints about this issue on Edmunds.com as well as this forum. Ont he way to the dealer, I noticed it would not use 5h gear either. I have to assume at this point it is the 35R wave plate that has failed and caused significant damage to the transmission. Of course, the car is not under warranty at this point. I took it in to the dealer this morning for a diagnosis. I am, like most of you, disgusted with GM for knowing this is an issue that is obviously pervasive with this model of transmission and doing nothing about it.
You would think they would be smart enough when building a 'family vehicle' for the masses who are on a tight budget they would take responsibility for a major flaw that is costing thousands of struggling families, thousands of dollars. There is no advertising in the world that will make up for this. Unless they make it right, next time, a Honda or Toyota for sure.
K7407 3-5 Reverse Clutch Plate Replacement. 46826 Broken wave washer K4707 test drive. Soft and harsh shift between 5 and 6. Seems to hint between 4th to 6th at times at 60 mph. Removed trans. found the same wave washer broken. This time it didn't break into many parts and did not tear anything else up. Only replaced wave washer, no need for filters as no shavings from other parts. Inspection showed parts can be reused, so only replaced wave washer. Reinstalled trans filled with fluid test drie and set front toe. Trans flush code EBA66EE 1.1 @ 65 degrees F. I just bought this 2008 saturn outlook 3 months ago and it had 42,000 miles on it and only drove it for 4,800 miles and had trans issues. The above service was performed by local authorized saturn service center. Since my experience i have read alot of blogs and it appears that similar trans problems are being reported in saturns/GMC acadia. I'm thankful mine was still under the 5 year mgf warranty BUT what happens when history repeats it's self and it appears it's not just IF it's WHEN it happens again. This is such a consumer ripoff to pay $27,000 for a vehicle and already have trans problems. Appears this needs to be more of a RECALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have read all the reports on the transmission problems that the Outlooks have been having. I think i have all of you beat, my 2008 only had 40,000 miles when it started to hesitate and jump and then totally stop going into drive or reverse!!. A HUGE safety issue since it can happen on a highway! RECALL!!!
While going in reverse, jering was first noticed. A few days later, shifting hesitation was noticed and high engine RPM was observed with unmatched acceleration. Engine light turned on and transmission was disengaged. No gears were operative.
On Monday August 18th 2014 my 2008 Saturn Outlook began to miss gears in which i thought may be low on transmission oil I checked the fluid and the dipstick showed a normal line level. I took the vehicle to the store for the last time that day when it failed to shift entirely while I was in the middle turn lane holding up about 20 cars in traffic. I pushed it into a local restaurant at the corner and called a tow truck to take it to Lung-hammer GMC down the road. They said they couldn't get to it right away but they would call me when they find out what it is and will charge me an inspection fee of $69.00 On Friday of the same week they called to get permission to remove and inspect the transmission. I told them the research showed it was the wave plate and hundreds of people are going though the same thing. It had all the same symptoms. They said they still had to break it down to see what it was and because my vehicle was now off of warranty it will cost me $600.00. They take it apart THEY SAID and then said the rear and 5th gear are damaged. I said I told you what the symptoms were and what needed to be done and I KNOW THAT. They then said it would cost me $6500.00 to rebuild it. I said are you crazy? I can have that rebuilt at a local transmission shop for $2400.00 and I wanted to see if GM would cover any of the repair since they damn well know what is going on. Well now Im having it towed to another shop and they will box the transmission for me to take with me. In the mean time I will dispute the charge on my credit card isnce I know they are trying to rip me off.
Transmission went out - wouldn't move in any direction. Dealer said there is no option but to put a new one in for $3800.
Was out of state and no option to get second opinion - only one GM dealer.
Has to be a faulty design to go out. Never towed anything.
I may have a lemon.
107,000 miles and towing a boat on the interstate. Stopped for gas and when got back on the highway it wouldn't get into 3rd gear. Reverse was out too. Fault codes were 700 and 776. Just called the GM service center and only Saturns / Acacia / Traverses with the correct VIN numbers are covered under a new 10 year / 120,000 warranty for this problem. Luckily mine was covered. Saw a blog where one guy's bill was $3600 in repairs...
I am having serious difficulties with my 2009 saturn Outlook transmission. All started at almost exactly 99K miles. Felt like I was in third gear when starting to drive...no power until I got past 35 mph
Bought this brand new, already had 2 different recalls on this make and model since 2008.... This time I was at an intersection trying to go through a light when the RPMs went sky high and the car didn't move- sounded awful. Had to try to push through to side of road, by myself, with cars behind me (thank goodness I just dropped the kids off!)...put it in park and turned off engine, could get the car to go about 100 meters at 10 mph and then pull over to park, shut off engine repeat- till I was home about an hour later- 8 miles traveling. What the heck?! Just fed up with this and saw there was no recall on this part....
Our Outlook has been in and out of the shop for the last 3 years with Stabilitrak error messages. Each time the shop says it is something else and charges us $500-1000 each time. This last time, about 3 weeks ago, my husband said no more fixing the same issue. Last week I told him that it seemed to have a difficult time going into drive after backing up. He drove it the next day and of course it didn't do it with him. Today after entering a main road it would not move into 2nd gear. I was able to move it manually in order to make it home. I tested it again and now even when the gear shift says it is in low the dash says it is in drive. It seems to be time to give up.
So sorry that I bought this used car. So sorry really isn't the word. Was at first told that it was a computer error some type of sensor that needed to be fixed was without my car for about four days .Went pick it up leaving to go fill it up same problem of it hesitating to change gears like it's skipping like a jerk that was now a week ago. now today I called to check on it from Dealer who sold it to me car just in the same place that shop he sent it to is now stating the part is not in and didn't want used part again. It's the clutch that needs replacing he's stating . Not sure if none of them knows what it is. Help me. So frustrated just wish I would have looked harder on the reviews of this car. Hoping, wishing and praying for the best!!!
took it to dealer for oil change 4/30/13 and mentioned that there was a slight hesitation on shifting gears.luckily still under warranty.Replaced all wave plates,3-5-r piston,reseal 3-5-r housing,seal kit and fluid.Total cost to GM 1235.38 to me nada.One year 9000 mi later still running strong but am bringing it back to have them check fluid for debris.Really like the car,first Saturn was a 97 and no problems.
This was a recall that was done by the dealership. They noted timing chain wear and stretch, but only reset the computer to account for this. Well, fast forward to 150K miles and the timing chain broke and destroyed the motor.
Details...same problem that others have reported. Delay in shifting, engine light comes on. While I new there was issues with the transmission, I was hoping that my problem was something elase. No such luck. Before I lost all gears, I lost 3rd. With 100 miles from home I drove 50 miles in 2nd gear. Then lost all gears. Towed home...will cost $3500 to $3800 TO REPAIR. I know GM does not want another recall, but this is silly. How many transmissions have to go out before they admit there is a problem. It's not fair to those of us that trusted them.
I've been having these problems since 2012. Same issues with hesitating between gears. I have had the car into the dealer many times with the same issue. I was told it was everything from faulty sensors, which they replaced one at a time to a catalytic converter which was covered under my factory warrantee. I started having problems at 60000 and now I am at 80000 miles. I just took it in because it is now hesitating in reverse, barely can get it to 40 miles/hr and absolutely will not go above 60 miles per hour. This car was really nice, but the past 2-3 years I've had many issues. I will consider myself lucky if I get this thing paid off before it becomes junk.
Just loss of reverse 2nd 4th 5th 6th
No reverse, 3rd, 5th hear. Started losing 1 and 2nd too.
Not fixed. Was in drive thru at place an pulled up to window put it in park. Got my food put it back in drive and noticed my check engine light was on. And started driven and it wouldnt shift just stayed in 1st gear
Trying to figure out the problem now ? And how much it will cost to fix
