Transmission Exchange & Parts
August 12, 2010

I had this shop rebuild my transmission on my Ford Taurus. The estimate was a few hundred less than the competition, so I chose them to do the work. They finished the job in about 3 days.

After getting my car back, I noticed it was leaking transmission fluid. I took it back to their shop and they worked on it some more and attempted to "fix" the leak. They promised me it was then OK and resolved.

I drove it home and realized the next day, the tranny was leaking again. I crawled under the vehicle to look at the transmission and attempt to find the leak. Well, I found it - and, I wasn't happy. Apparently, when they were installing my drive axles, they cracked the transmission housing. They tried to patch it up with some fiberglass mesh and paint over it with silver paint so it would match the alumiinum color of the tranny.

Once again, I took the car back. I was told that they would have to order a new side housing for the tranny and it would have to come back out of the car to get properly corrected. This meant about another 3 days of work to get resolved.

Needless to say, I had to get a rental vehicle while they worked on mine. In the end, I didn't save anything by going with this shop as the extra cost of a rental vehicle ate up the savings.

The transmission rebuild lasted 85,000 miles. At that point, my car started to throw codes that indicated the solenoids or the torque converter were starting to fail - something that this shop had apparently replaced as part of the rebuild process.
