Problem Description and Possible Solution
A shift "lag" may be noted when accelerating from speeds of 10 to 20 mph. A software update for the transmission control module has been released which may correct this concern. Software updates are commonly most effective on newer vehicles. Higher mileage vehicles may exhibit a similar symptom caused by a component failure. However, whenever major transmission repairs are performed the transmission software should be checked and updated as necessary.

TO COWBOY FAN in MCKINNEY: Loved your idea about putting together a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! Would fellow Lexus RX (04-07) owners be interested? Do we have any attorneys in this group? We DESERVE compensation for this problem - especially with Lexus KNOWING this is caused by a DESIGN FLAW! THIS IS THEIR DESIGN - AND BY PURPOSEFUL OMISSION LEXUS HAS NEVER CONTACTED AFFECTED DRIVERS TO ADMIT OR INFORM US THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE! Their "software updates" are a JOKE and are merely a way to deflect from the real issue.
THIS NON-REPAIRABLE DESIGN FLAW WILL OBVIOUSLY AFFECT RE- SALE VALUES. WHY SHOULD WE BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED WHEN THE "PROBLEM" IS CLEARLY THEIRS?
My 05 RX330 (original owner) has had this transmission "lag" between 1 and 2 since 40K miles... It's now at 86k and getting worse! I AM SO GLAD I'm not crazy for noticing this problem... my husband never "senses" it!!!
Is this a recall issue? Should I contact my dealership? Thanks for any help!
UPDATE: See my post titled TRANSMISSION LAG. CALL LEXUS AT 1-800-25 LEXUS !!!
I just started noticing a lag in in the transmission shifting at about the 20 mph mark when the transmission is to shift from 1st into 2nd gear. I took it to a transmission specialty shop & was told that the transmission fluid definitely needed to be changed, but they also suggested a "purge" & cleaning of the transmission which was an additional $300 but would most likely correct the problem. I went ahead with their suggestion and when it was finished I pulled out of their lot and it did the EXACT same thing as before they did their work and the problem is now WORSE than before they touched it. Any ideas on what may actually be causing it?? I am calling the dealership this week and will probably be taking it up there.
While driving casually, around 35 mph, the transmission shift really hard, like a delay and then lunges into gear.
transmission jerks at speeds between 20 and 40 miles, it's scare me everytime I feel like the transmission or motor is going to stop at any time while I am driving.
I've had the same problem for over a year in my 2004 - I am the only driver and when I have someone else drive it - they say its fine - I am just glad it's not my imagination - it's is real !!
Obvious trans hesitation between 1 & 2. Dealership mechanic says It cannot be repaired, updated software won't help. LEXUS IS AWARE OF THIS IN THE 04 - 06 330 MODELS - but THERE IS NO FIX POSSIBLE. FLAW IN ORIGINAL TRANS DESIGN. CALLING LEXUS CORPORATE.
Same issue. Dealer says our module software is up to date. Still reporting problem to dealer
I am researching to find out what needs to be fixed...
SHIFTS WIERD BETWEEN 1 AND 2
Lags in shifting from 2-3
Lag/hard shift around 35 mph
shift lag between 10-20 mph
transmission seems to lag in the lower gears and feel like it jumps in order to shift to a higher gear
After 90000 service-We noticed Acceleration lag- It takes longer for it to pick up. But it is to be noted that there had been 3 drivers in the last 3 weeks- SO we took to Lexus dealer- and was told about Computer memory and it should be better after 200 miles of 1 person driving.
I hope that they are right. Will keep you posted
Have noticed this lag and hesitation with vehicle for some time and is now getting more noticeable. Does anyone have any input on how well the software updates worked for this issue?
Just started noticing a slight delay in shifting in lower gears taking off from a light.
A definite lag when shifting from low to higher speed. Will mention when the car is at the dealership for recalls
shitling lags and kinda scares me while its shifting from first to second shift. I was told it was due to the kind of gas I was putting in. Due to the economy I was using regular unleaded so I was told to change back to premium. I still notice the problem?
Transmission hesitates under 20 mph when downshifting 2 to 1 or accelerating.
