TRANSMISSION on 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

RPM'S REV, CAR SURGES THEN GOES, RPM'S REV AGAIN CAR GOES NOWHERE. DIAGNOSTIC CODES PO730 & PO740, TAKEN TO TRANNY SHOP, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING.

The P0740 is a common code, I don't think this trans shop is on top of it. Here is an article I wrote about that code: http://repairpal.com/OBD-II-Code-P0740 the P0730 is an 'incorrect gear ratio code". Did this shop have a VW capable scanner, because the causes of these codes are readily apparent, IF you know what to look for in the scanner data stream output. Get a second opinion, try to find a good independent VW shop, they should be able to deal with these code, these are fairly common.
