transmission on 1999 Ford Taurus

the car starts but won't go into gear, what can be done to make it move?

It really depends on what the problem is, and that needs to be determined. It may be that the shift lock mechanism is not functioning properly. It may have an override switch so you can get it into gear, check you owners manual, or try here: http://bit.ly/ford_owners_manuals
