transmission on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier

what does it mean when it takes awhile to shift into another gear? (automatic trans.) especially when shift to reverse!

It can mean many things, but check the basics first. Check fluid level and condition. If the transmission has a throttle cable or linkage, check the adjustment. Check for trouble codes in the transmission control module too!

It sounds like a vaccum line is off.
