transmission on 1998 Ford Contour

shifts fine. Goes into rev, then skips 1st and goes to 2nd and so forth. Have no idea how to check or fill trans. fluid.

You should consider taking the car to a shop to be diagnosed. Many different components can cause or contribute to erratic shifting problems. Are any warning lights illuminated while the car is running? A shop will be able to connect the scan tool and look for any trouble codes stored in memory. Fluid level is usually the first thing to check as that can contribute to transmission issues.

My contour did this and I had it checked by the transmission guys and they found the computer switch that controls the shifting need replaced
