transmission on 1996 Audi A6 Quattro

auto transmission will not up shift. slipped out of gear couple times , seamed to be fine after that . next morning know its like stuck in low gear .

did the "prndl" displat in the dash light up all gears? if so, the car was in limp home mode and should have stored a fault that car be read with a diagnostic tester. there are many things that could cause this so without pulling a code we don't know where to start. your fluid level is checked with the trans warm not hot (35c) from a plug in the trans pan (no dipstick). have someone qualified check codes, fluid level and condition first.
