2001 Hyundai XG300 Question: Trans Not Shifting

Double D, 3.0L V6, Brewton, AL, May 22, 2010, 16:26
 Rookie

I just purchased this car 68K miles on it. Transmission will only shift through 3rd gear. What is causing this? The person that I purchased the car from said that it was a switch would cost $150 to replace. What switch would it be?

    The transmission has several solenoids. Take it to your local Auto Zone and they can run a free diagnostic and tell you which solenoid your car needs.

    went to autozone and was told it's the transmission input speed sencor error. They said I need to take to the dealer. This is inside the transmisson.
    Anyone been through this? Cost?

    Don't know if it will be help any more but I just had that problem with my XG 300 I just bought. It was the trans speed sensor which is a solenoid of some kind. The place I bought it from paid for the part but I believe they got it for under $50 so good luck.

    The output speed sensor needed to be replaced on my 2001 XG. It was causing my transmission to downshift to 3rd gear occassionally (which is not very pleasant when you're going 65).

    Although I'm only 6 months late on this, I can assure you that this was a recall fix. I had the same issue, took it in. Got the car back the next day and it runs like a dream. No cost to me.

    I got the same thing happening to my xg300 also.
    My ? to you is - did you take it in to a hyndai dealership?
