Southeast Toyota is recalling certain vehicles because the seat heater element may become damaged as a result of compression of the seat cushion. The damaged element could short causing burning of the seat cushion, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will disconnect seat heaters with copper strand elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory to correct this concern.
56 vehicles are being recalled because the rubber boot on the front suspension lower control arm ball joint may have been damaged during manufacturing. The damaged boot could leak lubricant resulting in premature wear and/or failure. A failed ball joint may separate from the steering knuckle resulting in loos of vehicle control. Dealers will inspect and replace the suspect ball joints as necessary to correct this concern.
The left side lower control arm is a component of the front suspension. One of the bolts may not properly secure the control arm to the ball joint. This could cause the control arm can fail unexpectedly resulting in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the left side lower control arm to correct this concern.
This limited regional recall is for vehicles currently registered or first sold in southern Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. Upon deployment the passenger airbag inflator could rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator to correct this concern. If a replacement inflator is not available, as an interim measure, the dealer will disable the front passenger air bag and advise the customer not to use the front passenger seat until a replacement inflator is installed.
This limited regional recall is for vehicles currently registered or first sold in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and equipped with Takata-brand air bag inflators. Upon deployment the driver and/or passenger airbag inflator could rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the affected airbag inflator modules to correct this concern.
When deployed, excessive pressure can build in the passenger front airbag. This could cause the inflator to rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. This recall affects both originally installed passenger front airbags as well as those that were installed as replacement service parts. Toyota and General Motors will replace the passenger front airbag inflator on their respective vehicles involved in this recall.
The springs used on the driver's seat adjustment rails can break. As a result the seat many not properly lock in position. In the event of a crash the driver's seat could move, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will inspect the affected seat rails and replace them as necessary.
The steering column assembly contains electrical connections for the driver's airbag, commonly called the "clock spring". This spiral cable assembly includes a Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). Due to the shape and location of the FFC's retainer, the FFC could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. If the FFC is damaged, the driver's airbag could be deactivated. The failure of the driver's airbag to deploy when required increases the risk of injury to the driver. When the parts are available, dealers will replace the spiral cable assembly to correct this concern.
The brake system contains an actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure to the brake at each wheel. An electrical component inside the actuator may experience an increased electrical resistance resulting in the illumination of various warning lights, including those for the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, Antilock Brake System (ABS), and Traction Control system. As a result, these systems may not function as expected, reducing directional control assistance and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will update the software for the Skid Control module to correct this concern.
These vehicles are being recalled because one of the electronic components of the hybrid control system, the Intelligent Power Module (IPM), can fail internally. This module is located inside of the inverter module and contains transistors that may become damaged from high operating temperatures. If a failure were to occur, various warning lights would illuminate and the vehicle would only operate in a reduced power mode for a short time or stall completely, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will update the software in both the motor/generator control module and the hybrid control module to correct this concern. If an inverter module were to fail before the software updates are performed, it would be replaced as part of this recall.
