2006 Toyota Tacoma recalls

Over time, vibration of the steering wheel while driving may damage the spiral cable assembly (clockspring). This is the electrical connection between the driver's airbag and the vehicle wiring harness. If damage occurs, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate and the driver's airbag may become deactivated. In the event of a crash, the driver's airbag may not deploy as expected, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the clockspring assembly to correct this concern.

Southeast Toyota is recalling 2005–2011 models for failing to comply with federal safety standards on tire selection and rims. Affected models were sold without the proper load-carrying capacity modification labels, which may cause the driver to overload the vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash. Dealers will mail the correct labels to the customer or install the label free of charge.

The load carrying capacity modification label may be missing from the vehicle. This information provides maximum load carrying weights as well as information about required tires and wheels. If not present, an inappropriate load may be carried in the vehicle, increasing a safety risk. Toyota has supplied customers with a new label to affix to the vehicle. This recall began on August 18, 2009.

The bead of the tire may have been damaged when the tire was mounted on the wheel assembly. Over time, a bulge may form on the tire sidewall due to the damaged bead. Air may also leak from the area of the damaged bead, increasing the risk of tire failure, which could result in a crash. Dealers will inspect the tires and replace them as necessary. This recall is scheduled to begin on March 27, 2006. The Toyota recall number is SCC 60A.
