Told we need Full Throttle chamber assymbly, Versus just replacing the sensor on 2006 Subaru Outback

Engine is dying out on the road, when put on a computer to find out what is going on it comes up that the Excellorator sensor is going out, we were informed that we had to replace the whole throttle chamber assymbly. Cant the sensor just be replaced. Are we being whodoo'd?
