tire size on 2001 Saturn SL1

Hello, my car currently has tires that are P185/65/R14. I was wondering just how important it is when replacing them to get the same size. For instance would it be ok to put 175/65/R14 tires on? Thank you for your time, and knowledge.

I do know that my car is supposed to have P185/65/R14 tires, however, my question is: can I put 175/65/R14 tires on with out comprising the safety and performance of the car. I have good tires that size, and it would help my budget quite a bit to be able to use them. Again, thank you for your time.

I suppose you could. But the new tire you're putting on will be a little more narrow than your current tire. You'd also want to check the tread on the tire you're wanting to put on and make sure its good enough to drive on for awhile until you can buy new ones.
