Question: Timing engine

Question

Visitor, 4.0L V6 SOHC, Chicago, IL, June 09, 2011, 13:12

my truck is knocking and I have gotten three estimates that i need a i timing chain. My question is what else should I change while they are doing that? Should i get a water pump and a knock sensor also? I have 144,000 miles. What is the average price for the kit and the repair itself? The Ford dealership wants to charge $1900 for just the repair?

At 144,000 miles, I would consider all options and choices before thinking about spending $2,000. My concern is - the rest of the engine still has all that mileage, and it may not be a great investment.

The repair is too complex to get you an estimate through our Estimator tool. I would advise to compare the three estimates and opinions you have to make a sound choice.
