1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL Q&A
1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL Question: timing chain replacement
You can find a good one here for your Mercedes: http://bit.ly/Bentley_Repair_Manuals - Bret Bodas
If you are looking to replace it yourself, I wouldn't. There is specialiezed equipment to claibrate the chain when replaced. I suggest you check with a MB technician first. - Visitor
If your timing chain has not slipped damaging the 4 exhaust valves it is relatively easy to do, please e mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org and I can guide you through it, I have done several including complete rebuilds Regards, Nigel - jaguarxj6
The timing chain and timing chain guides wear; they should be replaced every 100,000 miles.
my timing chain broke on my 1989 420 SEL. Can I use a 1986 420 SEL block to replace it?
