2000 Pontiac Sunfire Q&A

2000 Pontiac Sunfire Question: timing chain

I am told the timing chain needs to be replaced. Why would this go bad, and about how much will this cost? -
Answer 1
Timing chains wear out from not changing oil enough or just a lot of miles on the engine. The timing kit parts price is $83 and the labor is approx 5.4hrs, So about $650 to $750 depending on the repair shop. -

the timing chain on my daughter's 2002 Sunfire GT ecotec just went. The timing chain kit, valve cover kit and timing cover kit amounted to approx $550 just for parts. We are doing the labour ourselves. Shop quote was $1300!. -
