timing chain on 1999 Dodge Intrepid

There is knocking noise in the front of the engine,how can i be sure is the timing chain? is loose like a 1/4 inch is this normal?

Remove your accessory drive belts and run your engine just long enough to see if the noise is gone. If the noise is strill present, you can use a stethescope to islolate the source of the noise. The timing chain uses a number of guide tensioners and this repair is best left to a qualified technician at your local dealership.
