    6-7 years is an appropriate amount of time.

    it needs replacement at aprox 90,000 miles acording to the manuals and toyota.. At 90,000 miles the belt still in great shape and i have seen others changing it after 150,000 miles... get the timing belt done within 90 to 100,000 miles to prevent major issues....
