Question: Timing belt and water pump replacement

Question

Visitor, 1.9L 4 Cylinder Turbo, Billings, MT, July 31, 2010, 10:19

I currently have 75000 miles on my 2001 S40 1.9T Volvo. I am wondering, considering the age of the car, if I should plan on timing belt and water pump replacement before the Volvo recommended 105,000 miles. I have the car serviced every 3000 miles, and have had no major problems as yet.

Volvo recommends replacement at 105K or 10 years, so you are near the age limit for the belt. It's good insurance to replace it sooner than later, not so much because the belt may fail, but the belt tensioner is what I worry about. You have a big service at 90,000 miles, so you may want to have this done before then to space out your maintenance costs.
