2002 Honda Civic Question: timing belt and two sensors replaced. car is leaking oil from valve cover

after repair oil leak from valve cover, should this have been replaced when belt was replaced? also engine light still on, mechanic states my catalytic converter needs to be replaced. (no problem before the repair, why now?)

    YES the valve cover gasket should have been replaced ! Trying to cut cost , or if it was recently replaced (less than a year or 10-15k miles), is the only reason not to. Did they replace cam and crank seals while in there? They could also be a cause of oil leak.Did they sell the timing belt job because of the check engine light being on? What code(s) did they report to you P0420?
