how often do i need to change the timing belt??

My information says this is an interference type engine (serious damage occurs if the T/Belt brakes) and the belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles. Hyundia have a lot of great free information for tis owners at www.hmaservice.com

If the engine gets off timing or timing belt breaks; would it bends the valaves? I hear some GM & FORDS don't.
