It's a well known problem. You can't service the ETM, only replace.
Volvo was pushed to extend the warranty on the modules, so it might be covered for you.
The dealer usually clean the throttle body first for a bunch of money , than download a software update for the ECM. Mostly it's a waste of time and money (but this way they could charge you some $ to recover some of their loss on the recall) and at the end they will probably replace the ETM for you. SUMMARY:
On certain passenger vehicles, a combination of throttle positioning sensor irregularities, a dirty throttle housing, and/or inefficient software calibration may cause a warning lamp to light and the subsequent onset of limp home modes.
CONSEQUENCE:
This resulted in a high number of vehicles going into the limp home mode without need.
REMEDY:
Dealers will install the current software upgrade onto the involved vehicles. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this recall. Owners may contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
