You need to have your PassKey System scanned to see what is causing the problem. This system is part of the BCM, so the scan can't be done by a parts store.

Before I can estimate the cost of a repair I need to KNOW the exact cause of the problem. It is like going to Doctor and saying I have a chest pain, and how much is the bill going to be? Well is it indigestion, a heart problem, a torn rib muscle, etc? Saying that the Ignition Lock is the exact repair is risky, I have worked on these systems, I was a Journeyman Diagnostic Tech for a large GM Dealership. Really, the most professional, and the most precise way is to scan the data and see what the error really is. There is a sensor that goes around the Ignition Cylinder that can fail and will cause this problem, even on an intermittent basis. I have seen people guess and replace the Ignition Lock and not fix this problem, which is rather an expensive guess i.e. hundreds of dollars with NO resolution to your problem. Hope that this input makes sense.

The same thing used to happen to me. I believe my problem was caused by using a copy of the original key. It only happened sometimes, but stopped once I went back to using the original key, it has been several months with no further issue.
