Vehicle Application: 2001 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4L, Vin E, Eng Cfg V6
Customer Concern: The engine cranks but will not start.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Test the voltage of the Passlock sensor terminal B- Yellow wire from "Lock" through "Crank" and back to "Run". The voltage should be near 5 volts at Off, and change to a value between 0.5-4.5 volts as the key is rotated through Crank and back to Run.
2. Repeat the test several times and confirm that the complete voltage sequence is the same.
3. Test the Passlock sensor terminal C White wire for B+.
4. Test the Passlock sensor terminal B Black wire for a good ground circuit.
5. If no problems are found, or if the Passlock sensor is being replaced, perform the Passlock learn procedure as follows: Crank the engine. Return the key to the RUN position and leave it there for 10 minutes, then turn the key OFF for 5 seconds. Repeat two more times. On the fourth crank, the engine should start.
