The gear selector gets stuck. This last time the gear lock/release had no effect on 2001 Honda CR-V

I've had this towed to my mechanic. They managed to get it loose but couldn't see anything wrong with the mechanism and couldn't get it to lock up again. Any thoughts as to the cause of the problem.

the cables are common failures for these models. something is wrong and if they cannot find it, go somewhere else that can find the failure. Roy

There was a recall on this -someone erased my original reply???? corrosion developes on the linkage under the trans and makes it difficult to shift. Check at honda with VIN # to see if it's been done.
