This was my first time to The Garage and I will come back.
Howard is great. I've been going to him for many years and followed him from your SOMA location to the 9th street location. When he left recently, I didn't get the same quality of service during his time away. My previous experience without him resulted in having to bring my car back to the shop for something they missed. They also were less friendly and, the car seemed to not run as smoothly. Glad he's back.

I completely trust these guys and gals with any auto repairs I may ever need . That is very rare these days.
They told me that I needed a new transmission and I should go to the dealer for this. I was very pleased that they did research and gave me print-outs from that research about the warranty which should still be valid for my car.
I usually work with Howard who is exceptional. He treats me with respect and looks out for my best interest when dealing with my insurance company. I never feel gouged or taken advance of, not ever. The level of service I receive from Howard and the rest of the customer service staff is beyond mere words. I am so thankful to have found The Garage so many years ago. I think it's been around 15-16 years now and think that is why my 19 year old Honda still runs like a champ. Thanks, Guys.
easy process - quick repair turnaround.
Had a very pleasant experience getting my car fixed here. I had to get the work done very urgently and they were happy to take my car in with no appointment necessary.
Difficult to answer some questions. For example: how do I know that the car was fixed to my satisfaction when it's only been out of the shop a few days.
I feel the work was ok. The price was a little high, but I'm not sure what was done as I guess the printer was running out of ink as I can't read receipt. The work seems ok though.
I would recommend.
Please include car wash as a service. It will be a great help!

I think this shop did a great job. I noticed some other people on Yelp saying the shop would wash your car after service. My car has not been offered that. Perhaps it depends on the service, but it would be great to be asked/offered if that is available. It would also be helpful to explain what different service packages entail, since sometimes I get piecemeal work done on my car. For example, what is included in the 60,000 mile service? I can't find that online, and it wasn't suggested or offered even though my car has around that mileage.
Howard explained everything that needed to be done and I appreciated the customer service.

My only complaint is with the cost of certain parts used to do the repair. Another garage had charged me much less for the same part, so that did concern me.
When I drove my car home, less than 10 miles, the car over heated started smoking and the gage red light was blinking. When I called to ask Howard to have my car towed back to the shop because it wasn't repaired correctly, he stated that he couldn't accommodate my request even though the issue wasn't resolved. He told me I had 2 years to bring it back to see what the problem is.
I was a little put off by there being no written estimate and just a verbal agreement on the job and the potential cost. All concerns proved unfounded as the cost came in pretty much as promised and the work was completed sooner at least a day or 2 earlier than I expected.
Very well organized. Overall vehicle assessment sent to my email before work was performed. Great customer service. Will be coming back!

On two different items instead of a full price diagnosis and repair the Garage went with significantly less expensive fixes (repairing a window part instead of replacing the unit and replacing the gas cap instead of an expensive diagnostic check). Thanks!

Car has been good since the repair. However, the front passenger tire was flat when I picked up the car. I only realized it when I arrived home. I ended up having to call a tow truck. It may have been bad timing but the tire was definitely flat when I picked up the car because I noticed a difference in the steering.

Everything went really well! My car was serviced extremely quickly and I was able to pick it up that day. The only thing is that my car, which is white, wasn't cleaned afterwards and I still have black hand prints all over my hood. Nothing wrong with the service though!

I understand that computers for newer cars are complex, but I feel that not catching an error during diagnostics that led to a breakdown on the bridge is inexcusable.

COST: Then I was told 'that will be $XXX amount, I was not told that was ON TOP OF the initial $150 fee. COMMUNICATION: Additionally, I had to call in to check on my car's progress, and the person answering the phone seemed to not understand why I called in after 6 hours of no communication.

I was familiar enough with my car and what was involved that I understood this was going to be a lot of labor required to even assess if any damage had happened, so I felt that the price was reasonable. The car was delayed because the incorrect serpentine belt was ordered - Warren offered to cover the cost of a car rental for another day, but I declined. Even with the delay of a few hours, having my car done in 1 day instead of my initial expectation of 3 days was fantastic. Warren's customer service was really, really great overall. They had replaced a headlight bulb and fixed the alignment of the bulb. A fuse for the bull popped out on the way home. Took it back and they found the issue and fixed it no problem.

I'm very happy with the service here. My only recommendation would be test out that all is working on a car before you return to the client. My windows were not operating and my clock was not set to the correct time. Makin me have to return the next day to have this fixed.

As a woman I've always hated going to a Auto repair shop as I always felt like I was standing there with a big bulls-eye on my chest that said 'Rip me Off'. Not so at THE GARAGE' - I LOVE this shop and everyone that works there!!! They go out of their way to explain to me how and why my car is not operating at 100%; why something has to be replaced; they will tell me when I don't have to have work done and why; are very patient and take the time to explain in a way that I can understand. They even wash my car before giving it back to me which I appreciate. Tony and Warren at the front desk are genuine, friendly, considerate and you can tell they love their jobs. As long as this shop is in existence I will be their customer and I continue to refer my friends there. Everyone deserves a great auto shop that performs excellent work!

They asked you first what happen or what's wrong. Like the doctor. So you tell them . They will check it and tell you what's wrong. And they will tell you what to change and tell you the price. If you agree they will do it.

Respectful friendly staff.
My car stalled and would not start, cranking but would not turn over. After calling another mechanic who said he wouldn't be able to look at my car until after the weekend I called The Garage San Francisco. They told me I could have the car towed to the shop and they would diagnose it the same day. An hour after the car was towed to the shop I received a call from Tony who told me the fuel pump needed to be replaced. They had the part delivered from the dealership and replaced it the same day.

Great service and value as always. Small hiccup with an initial misdiagnosis of a front end suspension issue, but they quickly let me know and got it right.
They could not test the brakes at high speeds due to the time of day so they informed me to call them back if problems persisted. It still occurs but not as bad. Just have not been able to bring it back yet.

That's my second time in the shop. There is nothing wrong with the attitude of the staff. They're respectful and professional. The first time with my 2012 Audi A7 they were really helpful, and delivered what I wanted.
However, this time I brought my 2009 Mercedes ML350 with check-engine indicator on. They performed a diagnosis, and told me that intake manifold needs to be replaced, which would've costed me ~$1900 with labor. I did not want that, and also did some market research. And the neighboring Mercedes specialists quoted between $1400 and $1500. I can understand the difference, they don't need to be the cheapest in town. But 30% difference is a bit too much. Also, other specialists noted that most of the times it's not the whole thing but its gasket (and a lever or something i don't remember exactly) which needs to be replaced and that would cost around $300.
But here is the the main issue. It wasn't the intake manifold nor the gasket which needed to be replaced, after replacing all 4 tires the indicator went off and there are no engine codes anymore. I don't know how they were related but that is what happened. If I blindly believed their foreman, I would have spent around $2k for no reason.
Ah, and for that faulty diagnosis I had to pay $150.

Went in for an oil change. During routine inspection of the car, Warren found that battery CCA was at 225 (rated for 550). Called before replacing the battery (during which time I told him that I preferred Bosch batteries over what they carried in stock) and had the battery replaced in a subsequent service inspection.
It was after the subsequent service inspection that I noticed that a part of the trim was hanging down loose. Called Warren, who explained to me that their staff hadn't needed to work on the interior, but that he would be happy to help me out and get it fixed up. Brought it in that day, and was out of the shop within 20 minutes.
Honest staff, great service, and super responsive to customer queries. Would absolutely go back.

The folks at The Garage have been taking care of my Volvo (2004) for 7 years. They have never attempted to sell me something I did not need, they are always straightforward about what needs to be done and the pricing. In addition to their honesty, they are a joy to work with, always polite, and there is a good sense of humor going on there. They understand what Customer Service is all about. I would never consider taking my car anywhere else.

The Garage left my car overnight for me, as they only finished repairs later in the day and I was unable to come pick it up. They've done this for me in the past, but left it in a parking space near the shop. This time they left it at a meter, which got me a ticket. I wish if they did that they would let me know in the future. Thankfully the garage paid the ticket and was excellent about their treatment. I will continue to use the Garage.

I was recommended to the Garage by a co-worker. I work in SF and commute about 1 hour to the south bay, so when my car was acting up after my commute in one morning, I was really worried. I had no idea about places to take my car, exept the dealer, who wouldnt even give me an appointment for another 2 days. The Garage came highly recommended by a critical co-worker, so I called and was able to bring my car that afternoon. The guys gave me their names, understood my commute issue and listened to me. They followed up with me by phone, explained the problem and gave me estimates that were fair and gave me specifics on parts and labor. They didn't try to pull the wool over my eyes. Completely professional, but also friendly. Like having a good friend who has a garage who is giving you a fair price on the work he will need to do to help you out. I got back to the south bay safely the next day. Completely satisfied!
