Sounds like the coolant reservoir has a hole in it or maybe the hose has come off. Take a good look at it. Put water in it and see where it pours out. You could also have radiator or thermostat problems. Don't drive the car if the engine is overheating, you'll damage the engine.

Similar thing happened to me driving around and all of a sudden steam poured from under the hood and most of the coolant just poured out from somewhere. After later inspection I noticed my resevoir "bust out" the bottom had 4 huge cracks and aparently is a common issue on most taurus. You can look on ebay for a good deal ($25) on a new one or pay $40-60 in stores. Hope this helps
