Question: The car is very noisy at highway speeds. Is that normal?

The whining noise occurs at highway speeds (45mph and faster). Seems to be coming from wheels.

    Good day,
    It is most likely a wheel bearing going bad or the tires may be scalloped (have a wavy edge) which will give you quite a bid of noise as well. I would recommend you bring it to a reputable shop in your area for analysis. Hope this helps!

    I have a 2001 E430 4Matic and it is noisy also. Dealer even replaced the trasfer case a few years ago under warranty and it still makes noises between 55 and 65 MPH. I think it is just a characteristic of the vehicle. Good tires will make a difference but I just use Falkens because the vehicle eats tires every 20K or so miles.
