I took my Nissan Maxima to Artis at the Auto Club under recommendation from a guy at Advance Auto Parts to get the timing chain and tensioners replaced. The valve cover gasket was leaking oil as well, so that was "replaced" supposedly by Artis. On the way home, the car was sputtering and smoking. That should have been my first clue. I took the car back the next day and they "had crossed a wire" and they fixed it. I took the car back several weeks later to get the timing chain fixed as I could not leave the car before as I did not have access to another car to drive to work. Artis let me know that he was not accepting American Express anymore, which is what I paid with before. I said that was fine and I would talk to my parents about payment. The car sat there for over a week and Artis told me he was waiting for me to let him know how I would be paying for the service. That really ticked me off. I was without my car for over a week and it was never even fixed! I picked up my car and took it to Complete Car Care on Gervais for timing chain service. When they replaced the timing chain and tensioners, they also replaced the engine seals, including the valve cover gasket! (Which had just been "replaced" by Artis less than a month earlier!) Luckily I used my AmEx card to pay for that "service" at The Auto Club and AmEx refunded my money. I would have been out $300 at The Auto Club for nothing if AmEx had not refunded me.

In short, NEVER EVER GO TO THE AUTO CLUB! EVER!!!!
The whole place is very unprofessional and everyone who works there is too. Avoid at all costs.

In response to CarolinaChick_22:

Speaking from the point of view of a mechanic there is NO WAY to tell an exact date of any part replaced on any vehicle simply by looking at it. Secondly, the water pump on a Camry is behind the timing cover and the timing belt which is INSIDE the engine. If you were not there to replace that then they couldn't even see the pump unless it was taken apart unnecessarily.
I have been to The Auto Club on several occasions and I can tell you that Artis nor any of the other techs there are dishonest. I have known him for several years now and if I know him he would want you to contact him at the shop if you have any concerns about a repair they have done. If you have not even gone back to him with this concern then he, nor any shop for that matter, has or will have a chance to correct any problems that may exist. If you have lost their number I have it right here: 803-771-2255

Years ago my mom took my older model Toyota Camry to this Auto Club when they were on Shop Road. If I remember correctly, Artis is whom assisted us. She had a series of work completed and was supposed to get a brand new water pump. Fast forward, she has another mechanic look at it and he informs her that the pump hasn't been replaced in over 10 years. It sickens me how mechanics can be so crooked and fool women. I'm sure he still has her record. This is only the beginning as I am beginning to make reports everywhere of how we were duped of our money and now our car needs what should have been placed on back then. Mom and daughter. I was a bit younger when we stepped in the office but recollecting back I could feel the dishonesty in the room while I was in there. How sad. Would you want this done to your mom or sister?
