What lubricant can someone recommend to stop the loud squeak that emanates from both my tailgate struts when I open or close the tailgate? I have tried silicon, ball bearing grease, wd-40, garage door lube, bicycle chain oil and dry silicon lube.

I would be careful using some of those lubricants as they may attract dust or dirt that may cause premature failure of the struts /cause the strut seals to leak. Could the strut rod be bent in any way or mis-aligned. I don't think I've ever heard those struts make noise.

I had a mechanic install these struts so mis-alignment is probably a remote possibility. forgot to mention I tried teflon as well to no avail. These are a little over a year old.
