What lubricant can someone recommend to stop the loud squeak that emanates from both my tailgate struts when I open or close the tailgate? I have tried silicon, ball bearing grease, wd-40, garage door lube, bicycle chain oil and dry silicon lube.

MasterI would be careful using some of those lubricants as they may attract dust or dirt that may cause premature failure of the struts /cause the strut seals to leak. Could the strut rod be bent in any way or mis-aligned. I don't think I've ever heard those struts make noise.

xgamer3000, September 12, 2009, 14:12ReplyRookieI had a mechanic install these struts so mis-alignment is probably a remote possibility. forgot to mention I tried teflon as well to no avail. These are a little over a year old.
