The leading synthetic oil is Mobile ! www.mobil1.com and we use it in our muscle cars and everyday new cars to make sure we have maximum protection against wear
and sludge buildup and change it every 5 to 6 thousand miles but they say up to 10,000 miles per oil change and we always use Napa Gold oil filters

Your car calls for Mobil 1 0w40 or the German version of Castrol Syntec 0w30. These are the best mainstream choices. Anything with both the ACEA A3 rating as well as the BMW Longlife-01 spec on the back of the bottle will work in your car. Be sure and use a quality oil filter such as OEM or a Wix/NAPA. This type of oil is generally good for extended drain intervals. BMW says 10,000+ miles on some models, but I'd stick with 5000-7500 miles or once a year whichever comes first. P.S. if you have not been running synthetic oil you will need to keep an eye on the oil filter condition about every 1000 miles for a while because synthetic oil will clean out the engine and can clog an oil filter.
