These vehicles are being recalled because the transmission gear selector can be moved out of the "Park" position without depressing the brake pedal. This could cause the vehicle to roll unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the shift selector in affected vehicles to correct the concern.
Spider webs may be found restricting the evaporative canister vent hose, which can result in the fuel tank cracking from negative pressure build up. Dealers will replace the vent line with one that will prevent restriction free of charge to resolve the concern. Any hoses found that have webs in them will result in dealers also replacing the fuel tank.
In the affected vehicles excess heat could be generated within the daytime running lights module located in the instrument panel. As a result the module could melt, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the daytime running lights module to correct this concern.
The headlight switch and daytime running lamp module may overheat, melt and cause a risk of fire. Dealers will replace the signal switch, add a jumper relay kit and replace the daytime running lamp module free of charge to resolve the concern.
The passenger seat contains a sensor which helps determine if the passenger front airbag should deploy or not in the event of a crash. It is called the occupant classification system (OCS), and is a mat that is part of the passenger seat cushion. These vehicles are being recalled because the OCS may fail due to the repeated flexing of the mat from general use of the seat. As a result, in the event of a crash the passenger airbag may deploy when it should not, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion (which includes the OCS sensor mat) to correct this concern.
One of the fuel line connections at the fuel pump module can crack, and if this were to occur, a fuel leak would develop from the fuel tank area. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Because of this, Xl-7 models first sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas are being recalled. Dealers will replace the fuel pump module to correct this concern.
25 vehicles may have been assembled with front wheel hubs that may not meet the design hardness specifications. These hubs may wear prematurely and eventually crack. If the vehicle is driven with a cracked wheel hub, the wheel hub may break, which would reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle. All of the affected vehicles have been quarantined at Suzuki dealers prior to being sold. As such, a recall notification letter will not be issued. Increased resistance due to poor contact between the terminals of certain wires can generate heat that can melt the splice pack used to connect the power circuit wires for the headlamps. This can result in intermittent or total loss of low/high beam headlamp function. If the headlamps fail to function, this will lead to reduced driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will reconnect the affected wires with two heat-shrink crimps to correct this problem. The Suzuki recall number is NU.
Some of the bolts that attach the engine oil cooler and filter to the engine may have been manufactured below specification strength. As a result, the bolt may break at the oil filter attachment point, which can cause an engine oil leak. Loss of too much engine oil can result in loss of oil pressure and the engine could seize, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the connector bolts to correct this concern. As a result of a failed tensioner, the accessory drive belt may slip or come off completely. This will result in hard steering and illumination of the charging system warning light. If the vehicle is driven in this condition, the engine may stall as a result of a discharged battery and the engine temperature warning light may illuminate. Loss of vehicle control due to hard steering or engine stall can increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the tensioner with an improved part to correct this concern.
