Suzuki Forenza: 05V022000
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The brake lights may stay on if an upward/rearward force contacts the brake pedal. If this happens, the lights would remain on whether or not the brake pedal is applied, and will remain illuminated even when the key is switched off. This condition could drain the battery if left, and increase the risk of a rear end crash since drivers will not know when the brakes are applied.
What Should You Do?
Please contact your Suzuki dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The brake light switch may be knocked out of adjustment if an upward/rearward force contacts the brake pedal. If this happens, the lights would remain on whether or not the brake pedal is applied, and will remain illuminated even when the key is switched off. This condition could drain the battery if left, and increase the risk of a rear end crash since drivers will not know when the brakes are applied. This condition would also disable the automatic transmission torque converter clutch, cruise control, and the traction control system. Dealers will replace the brake light switch. Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MAY BECOME MISADJUSTED IF AN UPWARD/REARWARD FORCE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. Consequence: IF THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING,A FOLLOWING DRIVER MAY NOT KNOW WHEN YOUR BRAKES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, AND A REAR-END CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THIS CONDITION MAY ALSO DISCHARGE THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY, AND, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH, CRUISE CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, IF EQUIPPED, WILL BECOME DISABLED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 16, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.
