Subaru recalls

For Models: Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback

Suspension & Steering, May 13, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The steering column contains several components that work together to transmit the rotating motion of the steering wheel to the steering rack. These vehicles are being recalled because the inner and outer shafts of the steering column may separate from each other. If this were to occur the driver would not be able to steer the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the steering column assembly to correct this concern.

For Models: Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback

Brakes, March 27, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

In areas where salt is used on the roads, slush containing road salt can splash through a gap in the fuel tank protector resulting in corrosion of the brake lines. This corrosion may lead to brake fluid leakage resulting in reduced braking performance, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and leaking brake lines will be replaced. Anti-corrosion rustproofing wax will be applied to all recalled vehicles.

For Models: Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback

Body, Interior & Misc., March 5, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Due to the position and quantity of adhesive between the glass and its retainer, the moonroof glass may become loose or come completely off. If the moonroof were to detach from the vehicle while driving, it would become a potential road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the condition of the glass adhesion and apply additional adhesive or replace the moonroof glass as necessary.

Engine, February 25, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

On 2010-2013 Subaru models equipped with an automatic transmission and Audiovox accessory remote start system, if the key fob is dropped it may begin randomly transmitting a request to start the engine, causing the engine to unexpectedly start and run for up to 15 minutes. The engine may continue to start and stop until the battery in the fob goes dead or until the vehicle runs out of fuel. If the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area, there is a risk of carbon monoxide build-up which may cause asphyxiation. Original equipment keyless entry fobs integrated on the vehicle key are not affected. Dealers will replace the affected key fobs to correct this concern.

For Models: Subaru B9 Tribeca, Subaru Forester, Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback, Subaru Tribeca

Electrical & Lights, December 26, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The accessory lights that illuminate the area under the doors are referred to as "puddle" lights. An electrical short circuit can develop when either the puddle light or its connector are exposed to an electrolytic moisture source (such as road spray that has road salt in it) and it penetrates the circuit board of the puddle light or the pins of the puddle light connector(s). The short circuit can generate heat which may melt the plastic resulting in smoke or fire. Subaru dealers will install an additional fused-harness, to protect the puddle light system.

For Models: Subaru BRZ

Body, Interior & Misc., June 4, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The owner's manual supplied with certain vehicles contains an inaccurate description of the operation of the front passenger occupant classification system. In addition, certain sections describing the airbag system require clarification. If a user reads and follows inaccurate owner's manual information, this could lead to an increased risk of injury to a front passenger seat occupant under certain crash conditions. To address this concern, Subaru will mail corrected inserts for the owner's manual to affected vehicle owners.

For Models: Subaru Forester

Body, Interior & Misc., March 12, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The automatic locking retractor, in the seat belt assembly located at the rear center seating position, may not lock as expected when used with a child safety seat. In the event of a crash, this would increase the risk of injury to a child seated at that location. Dealers will replace the affected seat belt retractor assembly to correct this concern. The Subaru recall number is WQA-37.

For Models: Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback

Body, Interior & Misc., February 9, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

A propellant with an incorrect specification may have been used during assembly of the side curtain airbags. As a result, one or both side curtain airbags may not deploy in the event of a crash, which can increase the risk of injury. Dealers will inspect and replace the side curtain airbag assembly as necessary to correct this concern. The Subaru recall number is WVZ-36.

For Models: Subaru Impreza WRX, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback

Brakes, November 28, 2011

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The brake master cylinder could malfunction unexpectedly, causing increased brake pedal effort necessary to slow or stop the vehicle. This may result in increased stopping distance, which could lead to a crash. Dealers will inspect the brake master cylinder and replace it as necessary. The Subaru recall number is WVY-35.
